The ICC World Cup Twenty20 is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket. This cricket tournament is organised by the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC). The World Cup Twenty20 tournament consists of 12 teams and is contested by all Test-playing nations plus qualifiers. The World Cup Twenty20 championship is expected to be held around every two years.
The inaugural event, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, was staged in South Africa from 11th through 24th September 2007. The World Cup Twenty20 tournament was won by India, who become the first World T20 Champions after defeating Pakistan by 5 runs in the final World Cup Twenty20 Match at Johannesburg.
England will host the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup in early June, the best players in the world showcase Twenty20 cricket.
